The terminals of the Port of Genoa are equipped to handle all classes of ships and cater to all key commodity sectors.


VTE
, Voltri Terminal Europa, under the management of the Sinport Group in which the Singapore-based PSA International is majority shareholder, handled over one million containers in 2007. Bolstered by its strategic location by the open sea, with a 15-metre draft alongside a 1,200-metre quay line divided into 5 modules, the terminal can accommodate simultaneously 4 last generation full-container vessels and 3 ro-ro ships. VTE is equipped with 8 post-panamax cranes, 2 super post-panamax cranes, 23 RGTs and 3 RMGs.
 

The port facility is connected to Voltri Distripark, operated by Pra Distripark Europa, member of the Sinport Group, with 20,000 sqm of warehousing providing a range of services for transport operators.

SECH, Terminal Contenitori di Genova, featuring a total surface area of over 200,000 sqm, handled 365,000 teu in 2007 and can accommodate vessels with a capacity of 5,500 teu, the largest to have ever docked in the basin of the old Port of Genoa to date. The facility offers a 526-metre quay line equipped with 4 post-panamax cranes and 1 super post-panamax crane. The terminal is set to expand as major reclamation works along Calata Bettolo will soon be underway, designed to double the current surface area and the annual throughput capacity.

Messina terminal is fully equipped to handle, store, consolidate, load, unload all key commodities.

In 2007 the 250,000 sqm port facility, comprising 30,000 sqm of covered storage area, handled a total of 262,000 teu, together with 172,000 tons general cargo and 132,000 linear metres of rolling cargo. The terminal is set to expand by a further 63,000 sqm which will be reclaimed between Ponte Ronco and Ponte Canapa by 2010/2011, adding on a 690 m of berthing line equipped with 5 portainers, with a 14 m draft alongside, and another 400 m quay line operating with 2 portainers.

TSG - Terminal San Giorgio (TSG), in which Gavio Spa has a majority stake, with the remainder held by Finterminal Srl and Rickmers Terminal Gmbh, ranks as one of Genoa’s premier multipurpose terminals. The company has been operating in the port since 2006 and is equipped to handle the full range of commodities, namely, container, general cargo, project cargo, steel products, yachts and ro-ro. The terminal covers a total surface area of approximately 80,000 sqm, with a 600-metre berthing line. Backed by its major investment programme, TSG has succeeded in rapidly boosting its throughput, thereby firmly establishing the company as one of the premier terminal operators of the Motorways of the Sea in the Port of Genoa.

GMT,  Genoa Metal Terminal Srl, member of the Steinweg group which ranks as a worldwide leader in primary goods logistics, operates a terminal of 90,000 sqm with LME and LIFFE approved warehouses. The company is highly specialised in the handling, storage and transport of non-ferrous metals, metal scrap, alloy steel, chemical products, soft commodities and breakbulk, and offers the full range of services in terms of land and maritime transport. In 2007 GMT handled over 500,00 tons general cargo.

GPT – Genoa Port Terminal Industrie Rebora – Gruppo Spinelli – covers a total surface area of 110,000 sqm and can handle both general cargo and containers, offering users the full range of integrated logistic services. Major restructuring works on the dedicated hazardous cargo area and reefer park are due to be completed soon.

Grendi ranks as Italy’s longest-established freight-forwarding company and since 1828 offers sailings between Genoa and Sardinia. Grendi provides both container and fast feeder services and in 2007 the company handled approximately 184,000 teu.

TRI – Terminal Rinfuse Italia – under the management of Babcock & Brown Infrastructure, is highly specialised in catering for bulk traffic (coal, minerals, iron and steel, cast iron, scrap, rock salt, fertilisers, kaolin, special sand, white powder), and in 2007 the port facility in Genoa registered

a 1,800,000-ton throughput. The terminal operates with 7 cranes and a 3000-metre conveyor system, and covers a total surface are of 162,000 sqm, with a warehouse offering storage capacity of 60,000 m3. The installation of a new conveyor system dedicated to the storage of animal feed is due to be completed in 2008.

ROLCIM – part of the HOLCIM Swiss group – ranks as one of the leading Italian shippers and distributors of cement. The terminal in Genoa offers 6 silos with a total storage capacity of approximately 18,000 tons.

FO.RE.S.T. – part of the Campostano group, is dedicated to the handling and storage of forest products, namely, wood pulp, kraft liner board, newsprint, timber. The terminal covers a surface are of 16,500 sqm (8,500 sqm covered), and in 2007 the company moved 159,000 tons of cargo.

TFG – Terminal Frutta Genova – Clerici Logistic Group, is dedicated to the loading/unloading, storage and handling of perishable goods. The terminal ranks as a true logistics platform for fruit and non-ferrous metals, serving not only the domestic market  but also central and eastern Europe. The port facility covers 70,000 sqm, with a cold storage capacity for 13,400 pallets in 14,000 sqm.

The Oil Terminal covers a total surface area of 345,000 sqm (including the surface area of the water). The terminal features both landside and off-shore facilties. It offers 4 wharves and a 385-metre quay which can accommodate simultaneously 10 ships up to 130,000 dwt. The off-shore facilities include an unloading platform connected to the shore by a 120 cm submerged pipeline which allows tankers of up to 500,000 dwt to be unloaded. In 2007 the company handled over 20,000,000 tons of petroleum and chemical products.

Getoil covers a surface area of 4,200 sqm and offers 8 insulated and heated tanks for a total capacity of 10,000 m3 for the storage of petroleum products, and 4 pipelines which connect the landside facilities to the sea. The company operates in the maritime bunker trade, import and marketing of fuel oil and bitumen.

Silomar is equipped for the handling and storage of vegetable oils and fats, mineral oils and bulk chemical products with a flash point superior to 65°C. The terminal covers 20,000 sqm with 83 tanks - for a total storage capacity of 78,000 m3 -, 12 loading trucks, 2 heating plants and 1 nitrogen distribution plant.
