LSCT – La Spezia Container Terminal
La Spezia Container Terminal belongs to the Contship Italia Group and is one of the most important and leading terminals in Europe. LSCT efficiently manages container traffic, offers a wide range of logistic services and has at its disposal a very good intermodal rail and road system linking direct with the piers and reaching the most important industrial areas in northern Italy and central Europe. In S. Stefano Magra, a few kilometres from the port areas, LSCT can make use of a good “distripark” for containers traffic and rail wagons loading and unloading operations: this creates an integrated port system using a rail linking service. Thanks to continuous investments in infrastructures, facilities and new technologies, LSCT was able to reach an efficient organisation and high quality services, gaining this way in 1997 the first ISO 9002 certification from the Lloyd Register, and later the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Certification and the new ISO 14001 Certification, proving that LSCT’s activity was always carried out with respect for the environment. In 2007, LSCT set its record, reaching a total throughput of 1,027,000 teus, with a 3,1% increase.
This was possible thanks to a thorough reorganisation process, which made LSCT a landmark in the Med for the services offered and its client targeted structure.
Terminal del Golfo
The Terminal del Golfo belongs to the Tarros Group and is situated in the east zone of the port. In 2006, this terminal handled more than 135 thousand teus, linking over 20 ports in 11 countries of the Med.
Tarros
The Tarros Group - leader in intra Mediterranean shipping - was established in Cagliari (Sardinia) in 1963, as a development of "Grendi since 1828", at the time one of the oldest Italian freight forwarders and shipping agents, controlled by the Musso family.
Tarros' aim was to design and build Ro-Ro container ships to be used on the route to Sardinia which, at the time, was served by conventional ships only.
Nowadays, Tarros is not just a shipping line but a multimodal operator working with directly controlled means: container ships, containers, lorries, block trains, depots and both
inland and port terminals. Tarros is a leader in the field, both in local traffic and feeder service for deep-sea carriers.
It also operates a "container door to door" transport activity in the Mediterranean area, using intermodal transport techniques (ship - road - rail) offering its services to both Italian
and foreign clients. It has a complete commercial network throughout Europe and North Africa linking more than 20 ports in 11 Mediterranean countries, shipping over 100,000
TEU per year.
The Tarros Group is a business reality which has been handed now with six generations experience, with a turnover of more than 60 million Euro and over 200 employees in La Spezia home port.
